Antique book of filet crochet lace edgings and doily patterns, worked into a pillow, table cover, luncheon sets, and hot-roll cover. Some of the pages have come unsewn, and 4 pages are missing (11-12, 17-18), but those 28 which remain are clearly readable and filled with some absolutely lovely antique filet crochet and cross-stitch designs. Illustrations are provided as lithographic plates, and they have retained their high readability over the years.During the war the women in this country, as well as those of foreign lands, whose nimble fingers were busy knitting for the soldiers, have realized the joy in keeping busy. Now that the war is over and we are enjoying peace, the ambitious woman is again turning to crocheting, cross-stitch embroidery, etc, which had to be laid aside during the war period. In this new book a number of suggestions for practical things are offered, such as luncheon sets, pillows, scarfs, etc., which make very acceptable gifts...Several patterns for lace edgings are offered, as well as doily designs. Inside the front and back cover are cross stitch charts in color for swag, ribbon, basket, bouquet, wreath, rose, and other lovely old-fashioned floral designs.
Condition: Fair to good, 4 pages missing, some pages unsewn, front cover has rectangle cut from side but this doesn't impinge upon the cross stitch chart on the back (see photo), some soil from 80 years of handling, slight musty odor.This booklet will be encased in a vinyl sheet protector and shipped in a sturdy envelope lined with bubblewrap and cardboard to prevent bending.
