Red binding is of durable cloth and in remarkable condition, its only noticeable wear at the edges; the blue printing on the covers still bright and charming. Inside, the list of contributors includes 68 established experts, but the writing style within each entry is lucid and friendly, even 50 years later. 502 line cut illustrations and a glossy flower color key are included. Originally published in 1938, this third edition has mid-1950s updates on plant nutrition, soil conditioners, and soil acidity. Also historically important are the details on growing conditions, plant production, unique native plants, etc., within each of the existing 48 states. Condition: Excellent; all pages clean with minor tanning, tightly bound, intact, with no tears or dogears.A worthy collectible for anyone interested in gardening, botany, or horticultural history.
