Excellent book about the struggles of the Yaqui Native American Indians, with accounts from four Yaqui women. Very interesting and educational.

Excerpt from the dust jacket: "The four life histories collected here- personal accounts of the Yaqui wars, deportation from Sonora in virtual slavery, life as soldaderas with the Mexican Revolutionary army, emigration to Arizona to escape persecution, the rebuilding of the Yaqui communities-constitute remarkable documents of human endurance, valuable for both their historical and their anthropological insights. As their separate lives developed, each of the four women came to represent a different type of behavioral constellation, so that implicitly their stories demonstrate something of the range and variation that exists in women"s roles in Yaqui culture."

This is a scholarly work complete with chapters on the Research Base and Methodology, the Interpretive Framework, and References Cited, as well as real life narratives from Yaqui women. Black and white sketches of the women are included in the book, and one map showing the discussed area.

Book is in like new condition, no writing, marks, tears, stains, etc. Pages in like new condition. Small address label is attached to front endpaper (see scan). Nice green endpapers. Cover in excellent condition, binding tight. Dust Jacket is worn and faded, but no rips or tears, in better than fair condition. Dust Jacket design by Anne Burkholder.
