Each one of these old and new U.S. coins is first layered in pure bright silver. Then the figures of each are highlighted and brought to life with rich pure 24K gold (this gold work is done by hand). This breathtaking and exclusive work turns these coins into stunning and true works of art. Each coin is hermetically sealed against wear in a clear, hard acrylic coating. Each pair of cuff links comes in a nice jewelry box.
This is the new 2004 Jefferson nickel design "Peace Medal" for the Bicentennial of Lewis & Clark expedition. It is the first design change for the nickel since 1938. These will be great collectors items. The face side still has the same Jefferson profile. This side is reminiscent of the Jefferson Indian peace medal of 1801. The coin depicts the clasped hands, signifying peace, of an American Indian Chief and American Military officer, and the inscription "Louisiana Purchase" and "1803", commemorating the bicentennial of the historic land purchase from France. The original medals were presented to American Indian chiefs and other important leaders as tokens of goodwill.
